Solutions of the macro-sustainability challenges

Improving the efficiency of water distribution and usage

Further targets:

What´s the solution?

Voluntary action is an important aspect, as it can promote optimal processes. Towards this we have developed our sustainability strategy, which has considered the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and the Business Council for Sustainable Development Hungary’s Action 2020 program. Based on these, water is one of our most important focuses.

One of the most important results of our activity is that the used cooking oil does not get into the drain and through it into the sewerage network, because it would contaminate our living waters. In addition, we also pay attention to water saving during our operation:

In connection with our water efficiency solutions, the more modern use of machine washing should be emphasized. The water tank used for washing the barrels of used cooking oil and food waste is filled every 4-5 days, and the barrels are cleaned with the recycled stored water. We have also introduced a water recirculation system for cooling the boiler. The plant also incorporates an oil trap, which prevents dirt from entering the sewerage network.

We are trying to get closer to the right use of water in the office area as well, so in 2015, perlators were installed in the taps.

Business connection

The reduction of our resources, the economical use of water so the less water use also pays off in the business, because it simply costs less to our company to use the resources. From now on, the protection of water as an increasingly important and scarce resource can be considered as a value, an essential responsibility of the business world.

Results

Through our activities, nearly 6,000 tons of used cooking oil collected in 2018 saved approx. 6,000,000 tons of live water from contamination.

Despite the continuous growth of the company’s collections (used cooking oil, shortenings, rotten food, food waste), we managed to achieve a reduction in resource use.

During our operation, our water consumption shows a 400 m3 drop in 2017 compared to 2014, when the amount of water used was approximately 3 300 m3.

Technological modernization and built-in perlators have jointly helped to reach our water saving goals.
