What´s the solution?

MentForMe is a mentoring program focused on networking, knowledge sharing and inspiration. Development of employees at BASF is based on the 70-20-10 rule: 70 percent of their knowledge comes from job-related experiences, 20 percent from interactions with others, and 10 percent from formal educational events. The purpose of MentForMe program is to contribute to the development of employees by encouraging knowledge sharing. The program is available to all European employees of BASF and offers cross-unit and cross-discipline mentoring opportunities. The online platform of MentForMe proposes suitable mentors to the mentees and provides step-by-step guidance for a successful mentoring relationship.

Registration for the program is to be made on the company intranet and is currently available to European employees of BASF only. The program proposes potential mentors to registered mentees who have to send a mentoring request to the mentor of their choice. If the mentor accepts the request, mentor and mentee can start the mentoring relationship and work towards development goals supported by MentForMe. The mentoring relationship is designed to last 6 months and takes up 1-2 hours a month.

Business connection

MentForMe program shapes the professional and personal development of employees. Cooperation and sharing of best practices and knowledge across countries and divisions creates value for the company and contributes to the profitable operation of BASF.

Results

The launch of the program was preceded by a pilot phase which concluded with positive feedback from both mentors and mentees. The mentoring program offers great benefits for both sides. Participants can build and extend their networks and gain a deeper understanding of BASF’s operation and organizational challenges. MentForMe program strengthens the “One Company” mindset. It is important to raise awareness of the program in the organization to ensure that the database is up-to-date and contains as many potential participants as possible.
