What´s the solution?

At Nestlé, we endeavour to preserve the decreasingly available resources of our planet for future generations. For this purpose, we identified actions and targets in our factories in Hungary as well. We constantly strive to further reduce the energy and water consumption of our facilities and minimise the waste production.

In line with the continuous expansion of the Buk Purina plant, the water consumption increased in proportion from 2010. In recent years, we have been continuously striving to reduce the amount of water usage per 1 tonne of product. The current water usage is 1,55 m3/tonne, the bigger part of this amount is the water in product.

Business connection

Our company strives to manufacture our products with sustainable development, including effective water consumption.

Reducing water consumption is not only visible by the indicators, but also appears on the cost side – but for a world leading company as Nestlé, it is more important to change the mindset and set an example for others.

In the Buk Purina plant, we reached the following goals in the past few years:

  • Optimising the water usage of the biofilter (deodorant) with filters and water blows installation.

Water saving: 1 980 m3 / year

  • Water recycling in the sterilization phase of the technology.

Water saving: 27 000 m3 / year

  • Restoration of the water treatment equipment, and optimization of the operation. The residual water re-use in the plant, wherever is possible.

Water saving: 23 800 m3 / year

  • Optimising the water consumption of the cooling system.

Water saving: 3 600 m3 / year
