Energy production in Hungary, especially heat production, is still based mostly on fossil fuels. Until renewable energy production technologies spread and are becoming common, energy efficiency and energy saving measures can bring sizeable results.

Creativity and commitment of the management and employee, supported by a proper company culture are key factors when unusual solution are implemented. With clever energy efficiency and energy saving measure we managed to decrease by additional 10% our CO2 emissions.

What´s the solution?

Alteo supplies heat to its customers, and the heat is produced by burning fossil fuels (mainly natural gas) in our own boilers and power plants. Fuel costs are significant in the total cost of heat production, and fuel burning results in greenhouse gas emissions.
The solution is implementing energy savings measures and improving the efficiency of heat production and distribution.   The realized measures are: improved boilers control system (flue gas O2 content based control), flue gas heat recovery, heat pipe insulation improvement, using high quality steam condensate traps, replacing steam supply with hot water supply and converting steam boilers to hot water boilers, steam condensate waste heat recovery.

Business connection

Alteo management has initiated and successfully implemented an energy efficiency program considering environmental, financial and competitiveness aspects. This illustrates the identification and implementation of an eco efficiency measure, without major changes in the technology, bur necessarily building on unusual business approaches during the process.


Same amount of heat is produced and supplied to the customer by using less fuel and by generating less carbon-dioxide. Overall we managed to achieve around 10% fuel saving, and the same ration of carbon-dioxide emissions reduction.
